Myth 1: Miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, and abortion are the same thing.
Fact: A miscarriage, defined by the Mayo Clinic, is the spontaneous loss of a pregnancy before the 20th week. Most miscarriages occur because the baby isn't developing as expected and the baby perishes. An ectopic pregnancy defined by the Mayo Clinic, happens when a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus. An ectopic pregnancy can't proceed normally. The fertilized egg can't survive, and the growing tissue may cause life-threatening bleeding, if left untreated. An abortion, defined by the Oxford Dictionary is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy.
Myth 2: If you have a miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy in a state that bans abortion you will be denied treatment and left to die.
Fact: Treatment of miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy are legal in a post-Roe world. Yes, the protocals and procedures are similiar but the INTENT of treatment is entirely different than an elective abortion, which purposefully ends the life of an unborn child. The difference between a miscarriage and an elective abortion is clear. In a miscarriage, the baby has already died and therefore any treatment of a miscarriage would not be an abortion. The procedures and treatments used for miscarriage management are not prohibited by abortion restrictions in any state.
An ectopic pregnancy requires removing an embryo to save a mother’s life so that both lives are not lost. This life-saving treatment is not prevented by any current law restricting or banning abortion. Claiming that it is only serves to confuse women and potentially cause critical delays in care and allows medical professionals to use a political agenda to allow women to die to prove a point.
Myth 3: People will not be able to get a prescription filled because the medication may also be used as part of the abortion process.
Fact: “The pharmacists need to read their state laws,” said Donna Harrison, the CEO of the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists. “There is no state law anywhere in the country that prohibits the dispensing of drugs to treat other conditions. The state bans are bans on using a drug or device or procedure for the purpose of ending a life in the womb. It’s very clear that if you’re giving a drug for arthritis, that’s not for ending the life of a human being in the womb.”
Myth 4: Abortion is essential healthcare.
Fact: “Abortion is not healthcare. As physicians and other healthcare professionals, we know that when we care for pregnant women, we are caring for two distinct patients. Our duty is to protect and preserve the lives of the patients whom we care for. Our patients place their trust in us to recommend what is best for them, regardless of current political or cultural trends.
From the time the original Hippocratic Oath was introduced, there has been a clear separation of medical care from the intentional killing of human beings. The science is clear – at the moment of fertilization, a new distinct, living and whole human being comes into existence. Abortion, which is an action whose sole intent is to end this life, clearly violates the basic tenets of medical ethics.”

Myth 5: Chemical abortion is safe.
Fact: Chemical abortion is not safe and the abortion industry gaslights women. The FDA reports that women have died taking chemical abortion pills, usually because of an ectopic pregnancy or when later in pregnancy, sometimes from ‘severe systemic infection’. “There is a push now...to make abortion over-the-counter, to say, 'Medication abortion is safe, safer than taking Tylenol,' but it's not -- it's not safer than taking Tylenol. It's not even safer than surgical abortion."
