Pro-Life Bills in the 69th Legislative Session

Bills We Support

House Bill 1205 – Strengthening Safe Haven Laws

HB 1205 builds on North Dakota’s existing safe haven laws by allowing the installation of safe haven baby boxes. Currently, mothers can surrender their infants up to one year old at approved locations, but they must do so in person. This bill ensures that mothers in desperate situations have the option to safely and anonymously place their baby in a secure, regulated box which protects the child’s life and provides a compassionate option for the mother.

House Bill 1511 – Clarifying North Dakota’s Pro-Life Law

Following Judge Romanick’s decision to strike down North Dakota’s abortion ban on the basis of “vagueness,” HB 1511 takes a proactive step to remove any doubt. The very doctors who sued the state over the law’s clarity previously testified that they fully understood it and could practice under its guidelines. This lawsuit was never about clarity, it was about expanding abortion in North Dakota. HB 1511 ensures that all OB/GYNs receive a free, one-hour virtual training during their license renewal, providing clear guidance on when an abortion is legally permitted to protect the mother’s life. This bill removes any confusion and helps doctors confidently follow the law while upholding the sanctity of life.

Bills We Oppose

House Bill 1488 – The Most Extreme Pro-Abortion Bill in North Dakota’s History

❌ DEFEATED!

HB 1488 sought to legalize unregulated abortion up to 16 weeks, making it the most radical pro-abortion bill our state has ever seen. North Dakota’s current law already includes exceptions to save the mother’s life and permits abortion in cases of rape or incest up to six weeks. This bill would have dramatically expanded abortion access, putting more unborn children at risk.

House Bill 1595 – Unfairly Targeting Pregnancy Resource Centers

❌ DEFEATED!

HB 1595 sought to impose unnecessary and burdensome regulations on pregnancy resource centers, including mandating healthcare personnel at every location and enforcing additional state reporting requirements. This level of government interference is not applied to other charities receiving state grants, making it clear that the goal was to suppress the life-affirming work of pregnancy centers. These centers provide real choices and life-affirming alternatives to abortion—something the abortion industry fears.
