Last week, one of my very real fears came true - the FDA will eliminate the safety requirement of in-person dispensing in the Risk Evaluation Mitigation Strategy (REMS) for the chemical abortion drug mifepristone. By doing this, the FDA’s action just mowed a path a country mile wide for the culture of death to continue their siege on life. Mifepristone, the first drug in a two drug cocktail of death can now be dispensed by clinics, medical offices, and hospitals through the use of online pharmacies or drug delivery services.
As a post-abortive woman of a chemical abortion, this sends shivers down my spine. To this day, those three days in December 2009 are still very vivid. And the aftermath of that ‘simple’ procedure for my child and myself left one innocent person dead and a shell of woman that walked alone in darkness for over a decade.
But here is the good news! North Dakota is blessed with some very savvy, very pro-life policy and lawmakers who think about the long game. North Dakota is prepared and this ruling will not be allowed in North Dakota. I will provide more details in a follow-up post.
I and North Dakota Right to Life alongside National Right to Life denounce this action by the FDA. The FDA is supposed to stand in the breach and protect the health and well-being of the people of this nation. Not clear a path for the culture of death by loosening its safety standards. Women and children deserve better than this. We deserve life giving options and assistance, not a couple pills sent in the mail where we are left alone to suffer silently in the most atrocious “choice” a woman can make.
